Ed: As a collector of seleniums, have you become an expert? My understanding
of how they fail is that they wear out! Gradually, the reverse resistance
approaches the foward resistance until too much current flows, then
poof--the smoke. Sometimes, the rectifier forward resistance is required to
make the circuit work correctly, especially in chargers etc. I have a Honda
CB-450 (1964) Motorcycle that used a selenium (a multiphase!!)in the charger
with no regulator. I replaced it with silicons, and found myself killing
batteries. The forward resistance kept the battery from overcharging. If I
still have the bad one, you want it (as it is auto related)? Noticed
seleniums are often nice colors. I have seem orange (most common), yellow,
blue and black. Your collection contain any other colors?

Now change out the selenium rectifier, and send it to me. I have a modest
collection of 'em, and will pay the postage.
