It lies within the perspective of the individual user.  Some want the list 
to be like a calling frequency and their reply to default to the caller 
(rather than the entire list).  Others may want the list to be like a forum 
where the reply defaults to the list.  Both groups have their reasons and 
druthers.  However, only one group is going to get what the want.  The other 
group will eventually learn that with a minimum of keystrokes, they too can 
get what they want.

Regardless, the list or reflector is a great thing and I will enjoy and 
remain subscribed no matter which way it works!
