[Boatanchors] Q multipier question

So what is the principal of the Q multiplier in our boat anchor stuff?
I'm working on a Lafayette HE 30 receiver with no bfo or Q multiplier
action. When I switch it into the circuit, the receiver goes "dark", no
bfo action either.  Looking at the schematic it looks like an adjustable
gain oscillator circuit but I'm not sure if I am looking for a good old
fashioned sinewave or gated pulse or what.  My circuit is generating
something like a triangle. Maybe the oscillator wave is getting clipped
somehow.  Next question, any idea what the IF frequency is for this
receiver?  I swear I have the booklet for it and not a word as to the IF
freq.
Any input is greatly appreciated.
