[Boatanchors] my old VOM - anything I can do ?

Emanuele,
It's a question of "Balance", I had the same
situation with an old Simpson 260 VOM that I
bought while I was still in High School, circa
1956. Over the years, the meter gets banged around
and eventually, the equilibrium (balance) of the
pointer (needle) gets out of kilter as it pivots
in it's jewels.
The remedy is to carefully bend the pointer and or
it's counter balance in or out until you reach the
point where it's balanced both in the horizontal
or vertical position. I worked in the Electronics
shop at Bell of Pennsylvania, and we had one old
guy (Fred) who balanced meters, that's how I
learned to do it. It's very tedious work, and most
people don't like doing it, but it's either that
or having to adjust your zero point when in one
position or the other.
Good luck,
