Hello from Vienna !
First let me say thank you to all of you ! I've got such a lot of infos that
I'm really surprised. Only want to tell you: The original 5U4GB in the
HQ-170 is running ok and the transformer after 2 hours of operation has a
temperature of about 40 degrees Celsius (not measured, but I think its
somethiong like that, you can tough the transformer for a longer time and
its not to hot to hold the hand on it. I hope this is ok. All of my Drake
rceivers (and they are ok) have this transformer temperature after 15
minutes, the HQ-170 gets it after 1 or 2 hours of operation.
I have measured the AC voltages of the transformer and also the tube heater
and anode voltage and compared it with the manual and they are +/- 10 %. I
think this is ok.
So it seems that I had luck and did'nt damage the transformer while inserted
the rectifier tube wrong due to the broken insert - so I did'nt look correct
how to insert the tube.
I'm really happy that it looks like the whole story has a good end. To
replace the transformer would be a difficult thing for me, only rewinding
would be possible I think (its not complete sealed, only has a cover).
Many thanks to all of you !
This groups are realy great and people always find a way to help !
