Couldn't agree more. I guess next to the fact that ebay makes billions and Al gets
nothing for allowing fre ads, the obvious comes to mind...
As you say, auctions are here to stay. Many/most of us have bought or sold something
there. It seems reasonable to assume that if we are capable of reading email, then
we must have interent access? And if we have internet access, we must be able to
find epay without someone leading us by the hand? Granted, searching their site for
specific items might take a couple minutes, but to me at least, the small
inconvenience of having to do things for ourselves far outweighs the *MESS* these
lists would become if auction posts were allowed.
I haven't always agreed with everything you have said as list admin or even as Joe
Ham, but I suppose that's human nature. It doesn't really seem to me that there is
another side to this topic though, given the circumstances and particulars of
running an email list/ reflector.
Now, I have nothing against epay or any of the other sites out there. Those of us
looking for a particular item or items know quite well that we must utilize every
possible tool available to us in today's world. But I'd no sooner post auction ads
on here than I would send out a weekly 'wish list' of things I seek. To me, it just
seems really selfish. If someone wants to use this list to sell something, then we
should at least be worthy of having the items offered to us, not be told that we've
been deemed worthy of bidding against everyone else in the world. We already know
that, confirmation of the obvious isn't required.
