Wasn't there a movie called "Cheaper By The Dozen"? (grin) Read my personal post
to you Ron, I am just teasing here.

Do any of you old farts, (yea, that includes me), remember reading the article
in Popular Electronics? (might have been Electronics Illustrated) in the late
sixties about the wall of small speakers concept? This guy had perhaps a dozen
ofour inch speakers wired up to present quite an impressive sound and nice
dispersion pattern. Hmmm. Wonder if those boys as Bose read this? (smirk)

I built one of them and it did sound nice. It would have sounded even more nice
if I had anything decent to feed it with back then! I was busy trying to hot
wire and hop up old Motorola mono phonograph portable systems relatives gave me.
You know, push/pull 0 Parents tried to push them out of room into trash while
you tried to pull them back into the house! I miss those days. Sigh. Now I have
lots of truly nice speakers in proper cabinets and only some overweight dust
bunnies to share the glorious sound with.

Hi all, I am going to be rebuilding my shack/museum later this year. I have
acquired a nice collection of boatanchor recievers from my early years. These
radios will be recapped, cleaned, then really used. Although they were all
available with matching speakers, I probably won't try to acquire a matching
speaker for each radio. (Ever try to buy an RME 6901 speaker??) I have
several small audio amps and plan to run the audio lines from each radio, to
a selector switch, then to a common speaker (or two). Today, at a local
'superstore', I found a pair of nice GE "indoor/outdoor" speakers, for about
$25 a pair. They are nice sized and the magnet for the speaker appears to be
quite substantial. It is touted as being '3 way' and although I didn't look
that close, they probably had a couple of concentric cones inside.
Anyone ever use these? At this price, I would be willing to get a speaker for
each receiver. Another alternative is the speaker offered in the auto
departments of said store. Impressive looking 6" X 9" speaker sets for little
money. Only downside is that there are no cabinets, these being intended for
rear shelf, etc mounting.
I have had pretty good results in the past with the cheap 4" RS speakers. For
just CW and SSB listening, they work better than nothing, but I was looking
for an "upgrade".
I did purchase a couple of large RS stereo speakers last year, but I wasn't
too impressed. I guess they are designed more for the booming bass the kids
so dearly love.

Any suggestions?

thanks,

ron
