[Boatanchors] Question about R-388/URR front panel fabrication process....

Good Morning all,
I have reconditioned a number of 51J-3 or R-388 receivers over the years,
and the front panels have always been "silk screened" on fine grain crackle
paint. I have one now that I'm working on that where the nomenclature has
been engraved into the front panel. I'm thinking that, because the lettering
has to be highlighted with a white wax or pigment material, that the normal
crackle paint is out of the question, because it would not go just into the
grooves and would be difficult to do a proper job.
This receiver needs a panel re-paint, and I can do crackle or powder, but
does anyone have experience with this process?
Thanks for any help.
