FYI,
I bought an Icom IC-91AD D-Star radio at Hamvention this year. As most of
you know, Icom and R & L Electronics have been working together to get the
new D-Star system up and running in this area. A special thanks goes out to
Roger for all the hard work and time he has put into this.
My radio got wet during field day and quit working. I let it sit for a while
hoping it would dry out and start working again. Long story short, it didn't
and I sent it back. Icom informed me that it is to badly corroded to repair
and be reliable. They will not cover it under warranty and only offered to
sell me a brand new one.
This radio is supposed to be used for emergency communications and during
disasters. How many disasters were caused by the weather? If this radio
fails while under my rain coat, what's it going to do during a real
emergency? This is the question I asked Icom and was informed that it is not
water proof and they weren't willing to do anything else to resolve it at
this time.
I'm not looking for sympathy, only letting you know to keep this in mind if
you decide to purchase one. This was my first and last purchase from Icom.
Feel free to post this to other reflectors.
Ed
