If you haven't perused the ARRL web site in the past day or two, you 
might want to check out this article

Look through the photos along the left side.   You will, probably, 
recognize the name "Jim Garland".  Jim is the recently-retired 
president of Miami University and new resident of New Mexico.

In addition to the familiar face and name, this article recognizes 
the contribution to Amateur Radio that was made by the Novice license 
in years' past.  The Novice license ushered in the volunteer examiner 
program which was, initially, limited to the Novice license and later 
expanded to include Technician.
