Weather Spotters Training to be offered...
Hamilton, Ohio =AF January 28, 2002 =AF The Butler County Emergency=
 Management=20
Agency in conjunction with the National Weather Service's Wilmington Field=
=20
Office will be sponsoring a "WEATHER SPOTTERS TRAINING COURSE".

In recent years there have been more and more reports of Tornado sightings=
=20
in Butler County. Many times these sightings have been misidentified=20
because those who report them have not been appropriately trained in what=20
to look for.

These reporters have good intentions, but their sightings may have been=20
confused with those of dust whirls, wall clouds, shelf clouds, rain shafts,=
=20
scud clouds, roll clouds, or others that appear as "look-a-likes."

While there are two methods of detecting a tornado, Radar and visual=20
sightings, The National Ocean and Atmospheric Administration says, "only=20
one instrument can detect a tornado funnel cloud with complete certainty -=
=20
the human eye."

This training can be invaluable to the saving of many lives by giving the=20
National Weather Service the much needed information in order to issue=20
weather warnings in a timely fashion.
The training will be held on Wednesday evening, February 13th, 2002=20
starting at 7:00 PM; at the Monroe Fire Department located at 6262=20
Hamilton-Middletown Pike in Monroe. Class size is limited, so call the=20
Butler County Emergency Management Agency at 785-5810 Monday through Friday=
=20
between 7:30 am and 5:00 PM to reserve your spot.

THIS IS THE ONLY SPOTTERS CLASS THAT WILL BE OFFERED IN BUTLER COUNTY IN=
 2002.
