How early can kids be brought into the hobby, and how best to do it?

I know a four year old who loves his FRS radios. Give him two
screw drivers, watch out, anything could happen. He tore apart
a device that had a led, removed what he wanted, attached it
to a toy car, etc.

Funny unrelated story. I was at the hard ware store a while
back, the subject of little boys came up. A dad showed his
son how to use a screwdriver.  Came into the kitchen, and
all the floor level cabinet doors had been removed. :)
