[BARC-List] [wara64] Help with coax through the window at condo?

Regarding #3, I've always just used the foam insulation strips that are meant for doors/windows. Cold isolation seemed fine, even on windy winter nights. Make sure you put insulation along the top of the lower window pane though.

There are some interesting options that I have seen.

1 there is a flat piece of coax 9-12 " with connectors that is similar in thickness to a piece of twin lead and  is 50 ohm impedance. That said I can't remember where I have seen it for sale.  Seems like it was about $15.

2. MFJ and others sell a piece that fits in window and has coax connectors on both sides and provides insulation  and  does not let in cold air but it would probably mean the loss of the screen.  They are $50+ too.

3.  In QST  hints and kinks a while back someone suggested the use of poly-urethane pipe insulation that was split length- wise and maybe loosely attached with adhesive like silicone rubber so that the  coax would be kind of imbedded in the insulation and good isolation from cold and insects could be obtained.  You might make this work with the existing screen.  I have not tried this one yet but I will as it is likely better than my solution and much cleaner.  This is probably the cheapest solution.

Any other solutions that I know of are more involved and must go through existing walls and mean  modifications to the house.

Hope this helps or inspires another solution to this knotty little problem.  Jim N1IPP

I'm looking to get back into HF and possibly utilize an external
VHF/UHF antenna at my condo.

I have no patio or balcony, no basement, no attic.

For HF, I'm thinking about a hamstick or hamstick dipole.

Now, to get any antenna coax inside,
