Hello to all...

The following request was received by NWS Taunton Service Hydrologist Nicole Belk:

This upcoming Thursday and Friday we and the NERFC issue our next round of outlooks on the winter/spring flood potential.  One set of data we are trying to get more information on is river ice coverage/thickness. I was wondering if you could send a request out for river ice conditions? As always, we'd be looking for approximate observations taken from a 
safe distance from the rivers/streams.

Information from anywhere in Southern New England would be helpful.

If any SKYWARN Spotter/Amateur Radio Operators travels near or live near rivers can provide text reports and pictures of rivers and any ice on the rivers and any pictures from around the region, that data would help produce the river and flood potential outlooks issues over the next couple days. Please send the reports and any pictures to my email address and then they will be forwarded to Nicole Belk with you copied and all credit given to the spotter/ham operator for gathering this info. Indications of how solid the ice is and any potential for ice jamming on rivers would be helpful. Please gather the data and pictures from a safe distance.

NWS Taunton and Northeast River Forecast Center forecasters appreciate any support that can be given. Thanks for any help!
