Hi,
I am not currently a HAM but just came back from Dayton and find it
pretty exciting. I picked up an old Icom handheld so I can at least
listen in on repeaters for now. It is dual band 2 meter / 70cm. I am
in Medford and just need to set up a decent antenna to hear the
repeater.
Any recommendations? I can make a dipole with coax and BNC connectors.
However the best place to do it would be along the ceiling in my
basement, which is only about 3 feet above the ground. Since at this
point I just want to listen (I hope to take Technician next month
under the new rules) do you think this would be sufficient? I don't
want to go through the effort if I'm better off doing a different
antenna set up.
Once I have technician I could probably move it up to the attic. Would
an amplifier be something I should look for?
Ok sorry too many questions... Hamvention left my noob head humming....
-Ron
