THE SALVATION ARMY MAKES PREPARATIONS FOR DISASTER RELIEF EFFORTS IN THE
AFTERMATH OF HURRICANE WILMA
(Tampa, FL) Salvation Army relief teams in south Florida and throughout
the state are mobilizing in preparation to respond to the need of those
affected by Hurricane Wilma.
According to Trey Jones, interim director for disaster service for The
Salvation Army in Florida, the mobilization is taking place on two
fronts. “We have immediate response teams that are set to go to the
Florida Keys and a second team that will be sent to the west coast of
Florida depending on where the storm makes landfall.”
As a national first responder in times of disaster, The Salvation Army
provides assistance in the way of food, water, clean-up kits, spiritual
counseling and other essential relief supplies to both emergency relief
workers and survivors of disasters such a hurricane.
“We are playing a waiting a game right now”, says Jones. “It has slowed
down and the forecast is unpredictable at this time, but we are
preparing to respond no matter what might happen.”
The response to Hurricane Wilma comes after hundreds of Salvation Army
personnel from Florida have spent time on the Gulf Coast helping out in
the relief efforts there and now find themselves having to mobilize
again in their own state.
