Recently on TV I saw a new tool being developed for the police arsenal. This is an EMP-like device (they did not use the term on tv, of course) that could be tuned to a specific frequency for each specific model of auto it would be designed for. Thus, if a certain type of Ford is under pursuit, it could be stopped by inducing electrical failure, and the nearby Toyota would be unimpaired.
But as to that old vacuum tube gear being still workable, that's if you can get electricity. Even your gas generator may have diodes in its controller circuit, and those could turned int silicon lumps.
And to Steve I's question, the HW8 is an old Heathkit QRP transceiver (ran about 2 watts on three bands), and Gonset was a manufacturer of tubed gear in the 50s and 60s. Gonset made Civil Defense radios that some Hams now collect and use on VHF bands (and I use a Gonset HF transceiver for aulde tyme's sake).
