Eric, K1NUN, & Joe, KB1IXK, BARC Field Day Captains, have asked me to pass
this message along to our members and friends.
Have a blast!
Blake, K1BTH
You’ve all been patiently waiting to learn what Field Day ’05 is about and
your patience will be rewarded this weekend on top of the Larz Anderson Park
in Brookline. This is the same location BARC has used for several years and,
if all stays well, for more years to come.
Some of you have attended different planning or review meetings and have
picked up some of the details, but for the rest of you, here’s the scoop:
Location:
Brookline, Larz Anderson Part, top of the hill. There is parking available.
When to show up:
Setup – show up by 9:30 a.m. Saturday
Tear-down – prepare to begin tear-down about 2:30 p.m. Sunday
Many hands make light work, and this physical stuff is a lot of fun too!
Station Category:
3A (up to three transmitters simultaneously, emergency power)
V/UHF, satellite, and GOTA stations are freebies and do not count towards
the number of transmitters.
We have wire and vertical and loop antennas for 80m through 6m.
Public Relations table. There may be school groups coming through.
How you can help –
We want to have a neat, orderly setup, without clutter and without myriad
cables strewn around the area. We want to represent a clean image to visitors.
So…
What to bring:
Electrical items:
If you want to bring your own radio, you may do so but do not set it up
until permission is granted. Reason: the club already has the stations for the
main positions and there may not be space, power, nor antennas for additional
stations. Ditto antennas. You may bring these, plus additional station aids
(such as keyers, speakers, lights, etc) but keep them in your car and notify
the FD Captains (Eric and Joe) what you have. Label everything! If you bring
tools and supplies, again, notify Eric and Joe.
Logistic
If you are planning to stay overnight, bring your own sleeping bag, ground
cloth, and tent. Lanterns (electric) or flashlights will also be useful. If
you wish to bring an extra tent for yourself or to share, please bring it and
notify Eric and Joe.
Personal
Bring your own chairs. We will have some, but we will not have enough for
everyone who wants to sit at an operating table or for casual rag chewing.
Label them.
Speaking of tables, if you have a portable or folding table, please bring
it/them, but leave them in your car in case they’re needed. Label them.
Bring your own personal protective items: clothing appropriate for good and
bad weather, hat, sunglasses, sun tan lotion, gloves, bug spray, spare eye
glasses, medications, and so forth.
Bring Show’n’Tell, Giveaway items, good stories. Be prepared to haul your
acquisitions home again.
What not to bring:
ALCOHOLIC BEVERAGES ARE NOT ALLOWED AT ALL.
Do not bring barbecues, hibachis, or other flaming cooking setups. We have a
master chef on site, with full accoutrements for fine cuisine.
Do not bring pets, unless they remain under your full control.
Who’s doing what:
Eric, K1NUN, and Joe, KB1IXK, are the FD chairmen. Much coordination,
electrical, mechanical, logistical, and magical are being performed by the likes of
Mark, KB1EKN, Bill, W1OHM, Blake, K1BTH, Paul, N1ZKR, Jim, N1ICN, Bill,
KA1MOM, Bob, WA1IDA, Mike, N1IST, Dan, KA1RDZ, and others whom we miserably
regret not mentioning here.
