Dear BARC Members:

Normally I don't "cross-post" messages, but I'm making an exception in
this case. I hope you'll indulge me this one time.

The K1USN scouting events are an IMPORTANT cause for the entire Amateur
Radio community. The dedicated efforts of the K1USN gang benefit us all.
It would do my heart proud if some Boston ARC members reading this
message would step forward and contact W1AI and volunteer to help out in
some future Saturday events.

While you're at it, drop a note here on barc-list and let your fellow
club members know that you care enough about the future of Amateur Radio
to become involved in demonstrating this wonderful hobby to the young
scouts who visit the USS Salem museum ship.

Thanks and 73,

Phil Temples, K9HI

Radio activities on the USS Salem have been cancelled for this Saturday,
02/12/2005, because I only got one volunteer. That’s not enough to do
the job right.

I don’t normally seriously fuss at the subscribers to this list, but
we’ve been canceling 90% of the time recently. I’m getting so few
responses that I have begun to wonder whether my emails are actually
getting to the members of the list! Perhaps if I allow myself to “lose
it” this one time, I’ll at least find out whether anyone is receiving my
messages!

Think back to your initial exposure to amateur radio. Did someone take
the time to show you what it was all about? Now it is *YOUR* turn to
give something back.

Yes, I’m talking to *YOU* – to *EVERYONE* who has not done something to
help with the scouts in the past 6 months. (However, if you have helped
recently, I thank you. I am not fussing at you.)

If you live too far away, or if your Saturdays are all busy, or if
you’re afraid to talk in front of a group, there are still things you
can do. You can agree to become the new volunteer coordinator. You can
help with antenna-raising parties. (We usually schedule them on days
with blizzards.) You can donate money or equipment to the club. (For
example, we could use a few new, rugged code practice oscillators.)

*It’s time to take a vote!*

We’re expecting a large group of scouts on Saturday, March 5. We want
to do Morse code presentations, HF demos, and VHF demos concurrently
from 3pm till 6pm. We need at least 4 volunteers to pull this off.

Consider this your ballot.

Please */everyone/* return it marked with one of the following choices:

1. “I will be there to help on Saturday, March 5.”

2. “I cannot help on Saturday, March 5, but I will help on (select one)
3/12, 3/19, some Saturday in April, some Saturday in May, some Saturday
in June.”

3. “I have volunteered to help recently and will help again soon.

4. “I cannot help on any Saturday, but I feel this program is valuable,
so I will help by (fill in the blank) ________________________________.

5. “This program is a waste of time. Let’s disband it.”

Those are your only choices.

If you don’t answer, you will be marked as responding with #5.

If this message irritates you so much that you unsubscribe from this
list, you will be marked as responding with #5.

If you like getting fussed at, you have subscribed to the wrong list. I
don’t plan to ever do it again.

JC Cunningham, W1AI

A */frustrated/* USS Salem K1USN Radio Club Scouting Program Volunteer
Coordinator
