Unheralded radio/electronics personages that I remember fondly -
My great uncle Al, electrical engineer for Central Maine Power, who gave me his Victorian engineering books.
"Chet" the original W1NR, Army inWW1 and Navy radioman in WW2, neighbor, and old original elmer, dead 20+yrs. only ham I've known who _literally_ had a statue of Sen. Barry Goldwater mounted on the highest shelf in his shack like an Icon. He had WAA (worked all appliances) since it was the age of direct transistor drive, we shared a pole transoformer with them and Dad allowed him to run his 80m long wire over our yard. Luckily, as a Navy man he had no patience with that crazy new-fangled Air Force modulation (ssb) and his operating consisted of daytime ragchewing .. which was mostly gossip about his wife and neighbors, so fairly interesting.
