Hi Scott,

In the 'good old days,' we often used a 100w bulb as a dummy load. Never mind the changing impedance as the filament heated up. Our rigs at the time used vacuum tubes which were tolerant of unmatched loads. Dunno how finicky a xstr would be.

Some claimed working many miles, most only a few hundred yards (running 60+ watts). A lot depended on location, frequency, and phase of the sunspot cycle.

Of course, if you modulate an LED and put it high enough, you might work some Palm Pilots or some such!
