ALL DERA COMMUNICATORS -- RECEIVING STATIONS PLEASE
RELAY---------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------As
all are aware, Hurricane Isabel poses an exceptionally serious threat to
the Carolinas and states north. This storm has reached Category 5
strength several times already. While currently a Category 3 storm, the
strength of Isabel when it reaches land cannot be predicted. Current
projections are for the hurrican to reach land by Wednesday night or
Thursday morning.DERA Communicators are encouraged to take precautions
to protect themselves, their families and their property, then to
provide support as needed to the emergency communications groups with
whom they are affiliated: ARES, RACES, MARS, American Red Cross,
SATERN, etc. The intent of this message is not to set up communications
networks that would detract from or compete with established systems.
Rather, the following information is intended as a quick reference list
of the frequencies and methods for contacting other DERA members and
officials in times of emergency.(1) Primary means should be via normal
email if available. The DERA email address is: [email protected](2)
HF: In case of widespread communications disruption, the DERA Club
Station N3DAK will check into and monitor the Maritime Mobile Service
Network on 14.300 MHz. Members needing to establish contact are
encouraged to use this network if possible.(3) Echolink: N3DAK-L will
be active during emergencies.(4) Other key SSB nets: 14.265 MHz :

officer for the van and has authority to commit DERA resources and funds
for deployment and maintenance of the van. Bob may be reached at:
[email protected](6) DERA has one Globalstar portable satellite
phone in the CONUS available for mission support. Currently, we are not
budgeted to cover the cost of airtime (about $1.40 per minute). If the
phone is deployed, users will be expected to cover the cost of all
airtime. The phone is currently in Denver, Colorado. If the unit is
needed, contact: [email protected](7) Health and Welfare Traffic:
The SATERN system has an excellent online health and welfare inquiry
system that is designed to interface with the SATERN radio system as
well as regular Salvation Army capabilities. The system may be accessed
at: www.satern.orgPlease keep DERA informed of your activities and
status. Best wishes, particularly in the days ahead. - Jay Bascombe J.
