SATERN Reports from the field: Paul Cook N6RPF San Diego area SATERN
Coordinator reports that SATERN is fully called out to assist with
communications for a number of canteens in the San Diego area. He says
the situation is busy and intense. They are overwhelmed with work there.
Getting to the area to help right now is difficult because many highways
are closed, and people are discouraged from using the ones that are
open. He states that shelters are open in the area. SATERN is running
on the primary frequency of 7233. Many have had to evacuate their
homes. Some commercial radio stations have had to go off the air due to
the closeness of the fire. He speculates that people are sheltered who
don't even know for sure that they are homeless and requests prayer.
Tony Stephens, KE6JZF, one of the Coordinators for the SATERN San
Bernadino/Riverside team reports that SATERN personnel have been busy
since yesterday afternoon assisting The Salvation Army with
communications for the Waterman fire in the San Bernadino area. Tony
reports that the following amateurs have been involved: Tony Stephens

has been set up at command, outfitted with HF/VHF communications and an
additional one is roving the fire area in support of Fire fighters,
police, other emergency responders to the fire, similarly
outfitted. There are fires reportedly in several areas in California.
Larry Weaver N6TW, a Net Control for the 20 meter SATERN net, out of
West Hills, CA near Los Angeles reported a fire 3 miles from his house
on today's SATERN 20 meter net. Larry was in the process of evacuating
but mentioned that he would check in on his portable system at his
temporary residence during the week.
