                          THANK YOU ALL

As Massachusetts Satern Coordinator, and the Eastern Mass. Section ACC, I'd
like to publicly thank and give praise to all those who participated in the
E. Mass. SET Saturday. Without people taking an active part, there is no
drill. We asked for you to participate, and you did. Thank You. A special
thanks to those that gave up their entire day off to operate the Salvation
Army EOC in Boston. This EOC and those SATERN and BERT operator's, once
again proved that training as a team pays off. There is no doubt that the
Metro Boston District team will be ready to do its part if the need arises.

Whether we refer to ourselves as SATERN, or BERT, really depends on the
callout. It's a team, one that has now proven itself to be good, actually,
better than good, it's a great team of dedicated BARC hams. All of the team
are members of both BERT and SATERN.

The Team operated two Net Control Stations, manned two VHF, two uhf, an HF,
and a 6 meter station, with skill and obvious ease. They took the
check-in's, made the call backs, took and passed many tactical and some NTS
traffic, collected the data, and presented it to the Metro Boston DEC, Mark
KB1EKN, who then summarized it and sent it on to the EMa. SEC, NWS, and
MEMA. I'm sure that Mark appreciated their effort since this was his first
SET as Metro Boston DEC. Remember, that Metro Boston District covers 26
major cities and towns, not an easy assignment for anyone. But Mark has
broad shoulders.

Those who manned the EOC were: AA1XS James, N1ADF Bud, N1HID Rick, N1NHZ
Arthur, and KA1TUZ Dick. We also had NG1L Rick, and KB1FX Mike, both at
supporting home stations that fed us continuos simulated storm and weather
messages throughout the drill. Of course we can't over look that ever
humorous Hull EOC manned by the Hull Emergency Mgr., and BARC's ERT Team
Leader, K1BTH Blake. Thanks Blake for those moments of serious, but
invigorating traffic.

Couple of final notes, we thought we failed in getting our last HF relayed
NTS summary to Region One Hqs. since we didn't get a response back, but
today I received email from Dennis Zonia, K1VSG the WMA SEC, that he
followed up on the message with the NE Director, Tom Kinahan , and it was so
near the end of the drill, they didn't respond back to us. Thank You
Western Mass.

Things actually went so smooth at the EOC that none of us realized that Mike
N1IST actually shut down the repeater for several minutes. Pretty sneaky
Mike. But a great test. Guess we were working locals at the time.

Last, a note of Thanks to all who participated from Bill Foley, KB1GLF,
Salvation Army Disaster Services Director. In return I'd like to give him
BARC's thanks for creating the EOC, and for the use of the equipment and
the opportunity for training that Salvation Army continues to provide us.
It goes without saying that we also appreciate the excellent club meeting
space. BARC will continue to honor its commitment to first support the
Salvation Army radio operator needs when requested.
 Thanks Bill and the Army.
