Amateur Radio Awareness Day is a national opportunity to raise public
awareness about amateur radio.
In 2000 it was on Saturday, September 16.
This year, I'd venture to guess it would be September 21st.
I haven't seen a official announcement on it for 2002 yet.

>From the ARRL website:

"Feature writers interested in the continuing popularity of Amateur
Radio today, may want to do a story on local operators celebrating
Awareness Day, September 20. The annual event, sponsored by the ARRL, is
an opportunity for Amateur Radio operators around the country to hold
demonstrations, give talks to students and participate in other
activities to help raise public awareness about Amateur Radio. ARRL can
put you in touch with local radio experts in your community who can talk
about public service, technology, or simply why they enjoy meeting new
people over the airwaves."
