Cambridge Tab, May 10, page 12, entitled,
"1,600 paddlers enter Run of the Charles"
The article is 27 column inches long, I'll just present a brief quote
excerpted from the article:

"We are also grateful to the American Red Cross of Eastern
Massachusetts for their medical support," Zimmerman (Executive Director,
Charles River Watershed Association, sponsor) added, "and the Amateur (sic)
Radio Relay League for providing the ham radio operators who send
information from ten sites along the river to race officials and emergency
staff at the finish line."

Very nice. This is one of the few times that I have seen a public
service event sponsor acknowledge in the public news media that ham radio
operators were serving and described the functions that they performed.
