At the start of this year's public service season, I happened across one of
the handiest gadgets in recent memory: a type of loose-leaf notebook called
"uni-keeper" that made its contents rainproof and almost waterproof with a
latch to keep everything enclosed and safe. Unfortunately, these seem to
have not been a popular item: Staples has put them in their clearance bins
due to lack of interest. At $3.00 each these are quite a bargain.

For those unfamiliar with them, here are a couple of web sites for good gear
cheap"

       http://www.cheaperthandirt.com (Cheaper Than Dirt military
surplus)

This one has a huge selection of ammo boxes, storage cases,
shoulder
bags, backpacks, tools, and information for insanely low prices.
 This is
where I got the $3 grenade holder I keep my HT in, as well as
the $4 canvas
bag I use to carry gel cells. For ARES / RACES operators, there
is a $15
set of CD-ROMs with 200 army field manuals in PDF form,
including some
appropriate to disaster relief / shelter maintenance.

       http://www.sciplus.com (American Science and Surplus)

They have a huge selection of military and industrial surplus,
including
antenna masts, guy wire assemblies (4o ft., $9.50 each), and
heavy duty
"screw-in" guy wire anchors (new for the latest catalog, about
$8 each) and
             a wide assortment of gadgets.

Enjoy!
