Most of the VHF/UHF/microwave SSB activity that I'm aware of happens
during the VHF contests that the ARRL sponsors; there's one coming up
on Sept 14 and 15.

There's certainly a significant amount of fixed station operation, but
if you're low power and don't have a high gain antenna, you might want
to consider entering the rover category, where it's common to move
from one mountaintop to another during the contest.
