The trick is in finding a battery charger where you can set the charging
rate (exact, not maximum.)  Not too many you can do that with.

Somehow I have the impression that the charging rate is 10% of capacity, 
charged for 16 hours for a full charge.

So I charge my 17Ah gel cells at a 1.7 Ampere rate for 16 hours and they do 
get a full charge.
