Greetings

There has been a signal on 146.48 for a couple weeks. There has been talk
about it on a couple repeaters. So I decided to hunt the critter down. My
search had some help, KG5YBK stated that it was apparently in West OKC.
There were reports from Norman that a couple Hams had the signal was NNW of
Norman. KE5EQC Had an Arrow antenna at the Police and Fire Training Center
in OKC and said that it was straight up (North) Portland. N5YZA has receiver
saturation at May and NW 63d and AE5GS had the same at Brittion and Heffner
parkway.

With all that, I set up at 63d and Portland, with an Arrow antenna (K5JCN
loaner) and a 31db Coline attenuator, The HT had full strength signal in all
directions with full attenuations. This area has numerous multi-floor
buildings that reflect signals quite well. I dropped the attenuator on to
the HT with just a rubber duck and still had full strength signal.

A QRZ search for the 73116 revealed 45 hams. I drove the area,
Portland/63d/Tulsa/ NW 50th with the HT and no antenna and got the squelch
to open at Portland and 53d and again at 53d and Ruff St. After several
trips around the area the squelch would open in the vicinity of Deaconess
Hospital. I pulled into the parking lot and when I parked had an S-9 Signal
with no antenna.

I went in and spoke with one of the security officers who was somewhat
interested but was looking at me as though I just landed a spaceship in her
parking lot. She took my name and phone number and would pass the issue on
up the chain.

Does anyone have a point of contact at Deaconess? I am 95% sure that its
coming from the hospital. I remember a program that was using Amateur Radio
as a back-up to the inter-hospital communications. The management at
Deaconess is in flux as they are now part of the Integris System.
