[ARRL-OK] MEDIA HIT: TCC Students Talk With Cosmonaut At International Space Station

TULSA, Oklahoma - A group of Tulsa Community College students had an out-of-this-world conversation on Wednesday.
They talked with a Russian cosmonaut on the International Space Station.
TCC was one of only 12 schools selected across the country to participate in the Amateur Radio Program with the space station.
The students only had a four and a half minute window, and during that time, TCC students asked 13 questions.
Students had to set up all the equipment themselves and if one thing wasn’t correct, the communication wouldn't have happened.
"This was a line of sight communication, which means if we were off by 1 degree, they wouldn't hear us and we wouldn't hear them, so everything had to be just perfect," student Jim Erb said.
The goal of the radio program with the space station is to raise awareness for careers in science, technology, engineering and math.
