Even if your stuck with an HOA you can still enjoy the hobby. My friend
that turned his attic into a faraday cage lives on a large lot with some
nice big trees on the back side so he strung a longwire through the
trees. I've heard of people that used a wire fence as an antenna.
Probably one of the strangest I ever heard of was someone that tapped
into a tree and used the tree for an antenna. I guess it could work if
the sap was up. Metal gutters on the house.

Where there's a will, there's a way. Hams are supposed to be
resourceful. Remember, with a tuner to keep your radios finals happy
just about anything metal can be used. In one of the FEMA EMI classes I
went to with another ham the instructor made a big point of commenting
that he was delighted to see ham radio operators in the class. He told a
story about how a ham had saved an exercise that was about to collapse
when standard communications went down. He said that no matter what hams
would get the message through. The "first responders" that were in the
class had given us a look when we came in but after his comments they
didn't consider us such outsiders.

Actually, where theres a will I want to be in it. But, that's another story.
