On Monday May 16, 2011 FEMA will be conducting a drill involving many of the states to our east. The drill titled National Level Exercise 2011. NLE 2011, will simulate the catastrophic nature of a major earthquake in the central United States region of the New Madrid Seismic Zone (NMSZ).
One element of this drill is a total communication failure.
If you are tuning around 3987.5 KHz at night and 7060 KHz on Monday you may hear traffic from stations working with various State, County, and local emergency management offices. There will also be traffic from other served agencies through out the region.
The State of Oklahoma is not involved with this drill.
However. We have a request from the Arkansas dept of health and a organ donation and dialysis center here in Oklahoma know as "ESRD Network 13" to assist with some communication.
** On Monday we need volunteers in the OKC area to help. We need two operators in the OKC area to assist sending a few messages to and from Arkansas.
Keeping it simple, one operator would be respond to the served agency in
OKC (and then would operate from your car with a good mobile rig). The
second operator would operate from the comfort of your home station -
provided you monitor local repeater or reach the mobile station via
simplex and then in turn pass the message via HF to Arkansas.
This should only take a few hours and I should have final details soon.
In the mean time, if you are in the OKC area and can help on Monday...
PLEASE contact me today.
