Subject: [National] USS North Carolina on the air,
Saturday January 15

The Battleship North Carolina, BB-55, berthed as a
museum ship in Wilmington, NC, with any luck at all
will be on the air this Saturday, January 15 from
around 1:30 PM EST till around 5 pm EST.

Both SSB and CW will be used, most likely on 40 and
20 meters.

The SSB operation will employ modern gear; but the
CW station will consist of genuine WW2 transmitters
and receivers, original to the USS NC and used
aboard ship throughout WW2, operating in their
natural habitat.

The call sign will be NI4BK, derived from the
Battleship's WW2 Navy call sign, NIBK.

Frequencies for the SSB operation are not precisely
known; but on CW, the most likely frequencies are
the vicinity of 7035 and 14035 KHz.

The Navy TBM and TDE transmitters, as well as the
RBB/RBC receivers, have been restored by members of
the Azalea Coast ARC in Wilmington, NC. These are
truly beautiful and authentic restorations.

I, together with a longtime friend from high school
days, Roger, AK4RS, will be the guest CW operators.
We look forward to working many of you tomorrow!
