AMATEUR RADIO OPERATORS NEEDED
If you are interested in providing an important community service and
would like to enrich your Amateur Radio career through sponsored
training in emergency communications and incident command, please read
on.
The Tulsa Health Department (THD) is looking for a few good amateur
radio operators in the Tulsa area to provide communications in their
Emergency Operations Command Center (EOCC) and at remote medication
dispensing sites during drills and exercises and during activation for
real events. This is an unpaid voluntary assignment. Successful
candidates will not be employees of THD. Operators of all license
classes are needed for various assignments. Candidates will be
selected based on demonstrated skills and abilities and willingness to
provide a vital community service. Prior experience in emergency
communications is not required. The two-step selection process will
include an interview and a hands-on skills demonstration during a
special event scheduled in April. The number of positions is limited.
Successful candidates will be required to complete training in the
Incident Command System (ICS) and the National Incident Management
System (NIMS), ARRL Emergency Communications courses, and
assignment-specific training. THD will cover the cost of all required
training.
Successful candidates will also undergo a certification process
including verification of licensure in the Amateur Radio Service and
an OSBI background check. Enrollment in the Medical Reserve Corps will
be required.
If you are interested in participating in this important community
service and would like to apply, please send an email to
k5thd at tulsa-health.org.
