Hi Lloyd,

Before MRC invents another system... I might suggest they look at
what already exists.

All it takes is $$ to get it running in more local areas for VHF/UHF
highspeed. HF is very portable (but not highspeed).

>> One of the many lessons that the Medical Reserve Corps program has
>> learned from the responses to Hurricanes Katrina and Rita was that a
>> way to help facilitate communications between MRC members deployed
>> into the disaster areas and people "back home" was needed. Jeff
>> Reilly, from the Westchester County (NY) MRC, has not only suggested a
>> solution, but also agreed to spearhead the effort. In partnership
>> with the American Radio Relay League (ARRL), and working with some
>> other MRC leaders, Jeff has developed and is now ready to implement a
>> system using Amateur Radio Operators ("Hams"). Through a coordinated
>> network (NET), we will be able to provide a central location, via
>> radio and digital means, for deployed MRC members to send messages
>> back home to their MRC unit leaders and families.
>>
>> During most disasters, including Hurricanes Katrina and Rita, hams are

>> Florida, and it is with urgency that I make the following request:
>> Please contact your MRC members who are Amateur Radio Operators and
>> query their interest in participating in the MRC NET (if even on a
>> limited basis). If they are interested, they should immediately
>> contact Jeff Reilly at jtreilly at optonline.net
>> <mailto:jtreilly at optonline.net> so that he can expedite the formation
>> of a contact list and create a schedule for the MRC NET.
>>
>> Thank you for your attention to this request.
