Oklahoma City (AP) - Oklahoma's statewide burn ban will put a damper on
New Year's fireworks displays.

State and local officials say individuals are prohibited from setting off
fireworks over the New Year's holiday under a burn ban in effect since
November 15th.

Dozens of fires in the state have destroyed more than 50 homes and
resulted in one death in recent days. An executive order signed by
Governor Henry says it's unlawful to build a bonfire or burn trash or
other material in all of the state's 77 counties.

But some confusion has developed over the issue. A state fire official was
quoted in a television story as saying the issue was unclear.

Henry's spokesman, Paul Sund, says everybody appears to be on the same
page after the governor's office talked to the state fire marshal.
