Subject: [OCAPA] health and welfare inquiries - Requests for net operations
In addition to the Health and welfare requests. Many of the requests for
traffic handling are being dropped or delayed due to no amateur support in
the area of the request. IE.. Traffic IS coming out of the area but could
be handled on the spot if there were HAMS to take the traffic at the far
end.
This is where YOU come in as an AMATEUR OPERATOR! Forget about that WAS NET
you get on every night with. Instead keep a "Listening vigil" on 14.265 or
on the 40 or 80 mtr nets and be READY to catch this traffic if it indeed is
anywhere near you!
This also should gather the widest desemination.

You may find the following information helpful.
FAMILY INQUIRES ACCEPTED BY EMERGENCY RADIO NETWORK
The Salvation Army is currently using its Emergency Radio Network (The
Salvation Army Team Emergency Radio Network: SATERN) to answer inquiries on
the whereabouts of Hurricane Katrina victims; it is now prepared to accept
inquiries concerning the health and welfare of loved ones affected by
Hurricane Katrina.
SATERN, which works closely with the Hurricane Watch Net and the Maritime
Mobile Net, garners reports from their net frequencies and stands ready to
handle emergency communications from the affected areas as the hurricane
prepares to make landfall. The SATERN organization values the input and help
of these traditional emergency organizations, along with the help of
countless individual operators, who provide inestimable expertise and
logistical, strategic intelligence to the overall operation.
SATERN is also responsible for health and welfare information inquiries
during a disaster event. Individuals seeking information about loved ones in
the disaster areas may register an inquiry online at
http://qso.com/satern/emailfrm.htm.
