The Tulsa Run takes place Saturday, October 30. As a public service, Tulsa
Repeater Organization (TRO) has promised to provide communications services
for the race.

Currently very few operators have volunteered to help with this race when
about 24 operators are needed.

This event is not like the Fair Parade where hams just show up and are
assigned a place to help out; with this event amateur radio operators must
be assigned and in place BEFORE the race starts because the police close off
the streets early in anticipation of the race.

That means we need to know in advance who will volunteer to support the run.
And, as we are so close to the race, we need to know today. Don't assume
others will fill in the gaps; so far only a few operators have committed to
be there.

The actual race begins at 8:25 a.m., which means some operators will need to
be on station by 7 a.m. (Contact Doug Lee KC5ZQM for assignment times and
locations, see contact info below.) Remember to dress for the weather
(having rain gear handy is a good thing). Bring your handy-talkie (and a
backup if you have one), extra batteries, ear buds or headphones, and a
note pad and pen. Since you may be away from your parked vehicle (Doug can
also tell you where to park, as parking won't be allowed on some streets),
bring a chair (if you want to sit), a few snack items and plenty of water.

The Tulsa Run is a great way to have the public get to know the abilities of
amateur radio (cell phones are unreliable in that run area) and a good way
for local governmental and other influential people to see hams in action.
These are the very people who could possibly vote to protect our
frequencies, allow antennas in residential neighborhoods, and donate funds
or goods and services to help us continue our hobby that is needed most in
emergencies.

With only a few people representing amateur radio when many more are needed,
most people will only remember us for not showing up.

Please call Doug Lee KC5ZQM at 510-2396 or send an e-mail to kc5zqm at juno.com
and volunteer today to help out with the Tulsa Run.

Tulsa Run FREE Pizza Party
To show our appreciation and to thank all the hams who participated in
communications support for the Tulsa Run, TRO will host a pizza party after
the run at Mazzio's at 41st & Peoria at 12:30 p.m. TRO is buying the pizza
and soft drinks. There will also be a drawing for a fun mystery prize at the
pizza party. All amateur radio operators who worked the Tulsa Run will be
entered into a drawing for the prize even if you can't make the pizza party.

During the race practice your radio/ communications skills needed for
emergency situations. And after the race join us for free pizza and soft
drinks and some great camaraderie with fellow hams.

Come join in the fun!
