I know some of this may be old hat to some
of you list members, but it is probable that
your computer has what is known as "spyware"
running on it. These programs forward your
patterns of usage (where you have been on
the Internet) to all sorts of sites that you
don't really want to have this info.

Make sure you have at least one good spyware
detection and immunization program running
on your system. And just as the need with
virus protection protection programs, you
need to keep it updated on a regular basis
(at least weekly).

The ones I use are Spybot and Adaware. The
Spybot is shareware (authors ask for a
donation) and Ad-aware. Ad-aware has a free
version, but also has more advanced versions
for which they charge.

Spybot is available at:
     http://www.safer-networking.org

Ad-aware is available at:
     http://www.lavasoft.de

Here's to safer computing.
