NE Oklahoma's Hamfest rises to the "Tampa Bay Challenge" to raise funds to
fight BPL
Oct 6, 2003, Tulsa Okla. - The Green Country Hamfest Inc. committee voted at
it's monthly board meeting to answer the challenge by The Florida Gulf Coast
Amateur Radio Council (FGCARC). The challenge was to donate funds raised at
the hamfest to the ARRL's Broadband over Power Line (BPL) Defense Fund. For
every attendee to the Oklahoma Section Convention (Green Country Hamfest)
will have the opportunity to add $1 to the ticket price and that $1 will go
directly to the Defense Fund. Also throughout the event there will be
collections points and other opportunities to contribute to the fund.
"We average 1,500 to 2,500 attending this event our goal is to receive a
donation from everyone," said ARRL Oklahoma Section Public Information
Coordinator Mark Conklin N7XYO. "Green Country Hamfest is a well attended,
fun and informative event." Flyers will be distributed to everyone attending
the hamfest as well as posters with information about the harmful
interference BPL will cause to communication in times of emergency and the
threat to the hobby. For more information about the Oklahoma Section
