Cell "phone priority lists" have been out there for quite a while. While in
my business I do not deal directly with this system. I can tell you that
there are just a few numbers that have this priority classification.
Many cellular systems are designed for average usage.. That is to say that
the number of voice channels is designed to handle mostly average and peak
operating times with a small percentage of excess for redundancy. This
doesn't mean that their phone will bump you off your call though.. What it
does mean is that they will have a priority when all the voice paths have
been used when initiating a new call.
A great point that was brought up this last sunday was first responders
entering areas that may be hazzardous to cellular and other transmissions.
I understand from one input that the EPA uses a radio controlled detonation
device to identify hazzardous substances immediately upon arrival (on
scene). This may not be dangerous, but it could be!
Bottom line: Be conservative! Check with on-scene officials prior to radio
usage.
