While I lived in Enid I must have been one of the few that did support
the local stores. At the time Enid was smack dab in the middle of
Oklahoma Comm Center and Dandy's in Wellington, KS. I purchased a
number of items from each and the one time I didn't I was seeking to
trade rather than try the questionable practice of listing it on packet.
OCC did not wish to trade and Burqhardt's was more than willing to give
me a fair price on my trade-in. Ebay was only a gleam in someone's eye
back then.
For those that wish to support a store closer to home, you might check
out B&H sales from Derby, KS (south side of Wichita). They are also
known as the Derby Radio Shack dealer and are the folks that bought out
Dandy's in Wellington. They have been to the Enid Hamfest for the last
several years so some of you may already know them. They can order a
new rig and I do know they will do trades. Again, their prices may not
be lower than HRO or the others. but they will be close. I've been
pleased to do business with them.
I have purchased a handful of items from AES over the years and one item
from HRO which I nearly regretted. I think the smaller stores will work
harder to keep you satisfied and to keep you happy for another sale.
The big boys don't really care and that is worth a bit of a premium to
me.
