I'm not really sure where this will land as far as email but feel that
KD5KZY just might have been pushed to far to fast. Looking at the Payne
County ARES roster we have 16 out of 32 ARES members who hold a Tech. ticket
and we need every one of them! All of us know that 2 meter FM handles the
bulk of the traffic in a local emergency. And we have more than enough HF
operators to handle the out of state traffic here in Payne County. To date
we have 3 Tech. ticket holders studying for their 5 W.P.M. and they're doing
well. None of us " old farts" have put any pressure on them, they're doing
it because they want to! Pressuring anyone to learn CW when they don't want
to is like trying to play pool with a rope.
To the other county E.C.'s the following advise, know your ARES members,
value them for the help they can give, help them as you can as far as
upgrading goes and know the members you can count on when it hits the fan.
All the Best de A.J. - K5AJK
