Actually yes, I was hired (August 14, 1963) to work at the WEDU
transmitter channel 3 by the chief engineer: Orbra W. Harrell W4BIN.
I worked for and with him for almost 18 years,
(as the assistant Chief engineer for the last 10 years)
I left WEDU for a station with a pension and because WEDU hired a
replacement manager that was known as a drunk and failure from
Gainesville, FL.
(He sure did a great TV interview show!)
(he fired Orbra and cheated him out of his retirement) He passed
away about five years ago (at 96, back where he was born, in the
panhandle) I didn't want to change, but I really didn't want my friend's
legacy to be lost. None of his family looked twice at HAM radio. He
was first licensed with that call in about 1933.
We were both "maintenance" types as apposed to "operator" types.
Now I am busy changing stickers and labels everywhere. Now: {Ron W4BIN
