I'm appreciative of that information Fred.
I didn't make the connection at the time.
I have enjoyed both clubs and an very grateful
that things happened as they did. I think that is
the feeling of a lot of other Brandon folks.

I feel responsible for AREU being started. As the BARS President, we were
not having any good technical meetings like Bernie does today. Ray was
frustrated with us and started AREU. At the time I was upset that he was
forming a club to draw members away from Bars. As we know now, both clubs
have co-existed to the benefit of all.

Thanks Ray.

To all of you AREU folks, the “Big Daddy” of AREU is planning on being
present at the meeting tonight. The group was his idea and, in my humble
opinion, is probably the best idea he ever had, bar none.

Ray, W4BYG, hosted the first meeting of AREU at his house in
1996 as I remember.

The name of the group was pondered and the purpose of the group was defined
at this meeting.

The purpose was to meet regularly and encourage activities to increase
technical activity and competency in the Brandon area.
The meetings were to be informal affairs (that has been a great
success) with folks from the amateur community presenting projects and
presentations for the information and enjoyment of the attendees.

Maybe Ray or Ron (another founding member) can shed some light on the first
meetings and discuss the activities of AREU through the years.

With the great support of a few hams in the area, myself not included at
present, a lot of information has been presented and much-much enjoyment has
been had by both presenters and attendees.

I look forward to the AREU meetings and attend as often as I can.

AREU continues to survive and will hopefully continue for many years in the
future.

Tony
