If you don't already know, Everette Locke (WA1KVT) became a silent key last
week.

Everette was a long time member member of the Brandon Amateur Radio Society
and
was the official net control station for the BARS net on the BARS 2 meter
repeater for
almost 20 years. He wanted to make 20 years as the NCS and talked of it
frequently
but his health prevented it from happening.

His friendly demeanor make the weekly 2 meter net a favorite for many folks
in the
area and he had a habit of "milking" the band for every last check in he
could get.

I will never forget the first time my daughter (about 13 years old at the
time) heard
Everette call the net preamble. She thought it was a professional announcer
and that
it was a recording. He did have a golden tone.

The above ramblings are an invitation to check into the Brandon Amateur
Radio
Society 2 meter net next monday (2/26/2007). The net will be conducted as a
memorial
to Everette and to his dedication to ham radio in the area.

His golden voice will be missed.

The net will be conducted on the Brandon Amateur Radio Society 2 meter
repeater
(147.165 +, 136.5 Hz tone). Net will start promptly (as Everette always did)
at
8:00 PM.
