I thought I would give you my opinion on the AREU reflector to see if any
one else had a better idea.
If you have a doublet that covers from 40 to 10 meters it will perform
almost exactly like a dipole cut
for 40 meters. At the higher frequencies all of the power will still be
radiated from the doublet but the
pattern will change. There will be only two lobes at 40 meters with either
antenna but at progressively
higher frequencies there will be more lobes. I believe the number of lobes
doubles with frequency.
To explain, there will be four lobes at 20 meters with the doublet and each
lobe will be 3 db down
from the original lobes at 40 meters given the same power into the antenna.
If you were to shorten
the doublet to close to a half wavelength at 20 meters there will again be 2
lobes with each 3 db
stronger that the original 4 lobes with the doublet cut closely to 40
meters.
If anyone can explain it better, have at it.
Hope this helps.
Tony

I realize doublets can be used with a tuner to work on many bands, but for
use on any one frequency,
how does the performance of a doublet compare to a dipole at the same
height, cut to the exact correct length,
with a good balun and good coax?
Have a GREAT day!
