Next Tuesday is the November meeting of the Amateur Radio Electronics Union
at
the Bell Shoals Baptist Church. The meeting will start at around 7:00 PM and
we
have a couple of items scheduled.
I have completed my microwave wattmeter that is based on heating of a load
resistor. This has been used for many years in microwave circles and the
sensing
element is called a bolometer. I have home brewed a bolometer and associated
circuits to measure power up to 150 milliwatts and up to 11 GHz in
frequency.
We will compare its accuracy with a commercial unit manufactured by Hewlett
Packard and supplied by Ron (KA4INM). I am anxious to know what the
results will be. I have done my best to calibrate the unit and it will
hopefully
agree fairly well with the commercial unit.
Don (KG4GOQ) has an IC260 that is giving him some trouble with carrier leak
through on SSB. I told him that I would bring some test equipment and see if
I
could solve the problem. Don is a regular on 2 meter SSB and we want to keep
him active. He also had a 10 watt to 80 watt brick that has receive
problems.
I will check that out also. I am hoping Don will become a regular at AREU.
As usual the meeting will be in the North end of the church complex on
Overhill
Dr. Just come on down Bell Shoals Road (South) from Lithia Pinecrest until
you
get to Overhill (about 3 or 4 miles) and turn right. The meeting room is on
your
left as is parking. The double white doors to the right of the wrought iron
gate is
the entrance to the meeting room.
Talk on is on the Brandon Repeater, 147.165 MHz with a positive split
and a 136.5 Hz tone.
Remember to VOTE!!!!!!
