I received my 2006 Field Day shirts Friday. I guess this is my official
starting point for the BARS Field Day. I began thinking about the
equipment that will be required to accomplish my objectives.

My objectives are as follows:

1. Set up SSB stations on 6 meters, 2 meters, 70 cm, and 23 cm to
demonstrate the added modes besides plain old FM that are
available on these bands. These modes are not used as much
as old reliable FM but they can be exciting for folks that do not
have HF priviliges. The equipment can be had for about as much
cash as an FM rig if you will accept a slightly older model. Come
on down and try it out.

2. Try and make as many satellite contacts as possible. The equipment
available will operate on AO51 and the ISS. Hopefully contacts will
    be make on both.

3. Set up a point to point microwave voice link on 10.3681 GHz. This
link will be between the upper and lower pavillion and will be for
everyone to try out. Give it a shot. Not too many folks have talked
on these frequencies. They are just a little lower that the downlinks
    for your home satellite receivers.

4. Keep as cool as possible and drink plenty of water and Gatoraid.

5. Eat as much food that is bad for you as possible (bacon, eggs,
    hot dogs, hamburgers, chips, etc.)

The set up will begin on Friday, June 23 at around 2:00 PM. The
official Field Day operating period will begin at 2:00 PM on Saturday,
June 24 and will officially end at 2:00 PM on Sunday, June 25.

The only task remaining at this time will be for the tired and hungry
"left overs" to pack up the equipment and clean up the area so that
we may return again next year without a hassle.

I hear that we will be operating 3A again and that the GOTA station
will be in operation. It looks like the BARS 2006 Field Day is shaping
up to be a great one. Please take time to at least attend and sign the
sign in sheet and maybe to operate an hour or two. If not, just look
around and give moral support to the "worker bees". I guarantee
they will need it and will be glad you attended.

If you want to drag your family and friends along please do so. They
can also sign in and will be warmly received. They may also be
impressed (you never can tell!!).

73 and see you at Field Day,

Tony
